Abortion Information

The Pregnancy Resource Center provides information regarding abortion procedures and risks, however, we do not provide abortions or referrals to obtain them.

What does the Pregnancy Resource Center offer?

Navigating the decision-making process during an unplanned pregnancy can be overwhelming, but exploring abortion and alternatives is a crucial step in finding the right path for you.

At the Pregnancy Resource Center, we provide comprehensive information about abortion, parenting, and adoption. By understanding your options and resources, you can make informed decisions that align with your values and future goals.

Our appointments are designed to empower you with knowledge and support, helping you explore all possibilities and choose the option that best fits your needs and circumstances.

What options do I have?

  • If you’re thinking about finding an abortion clinic, it is important to remember that abortion is a medical procedure. What type of abortion will you have? What are the risks? You deserve to know the facts. You owe it to yourself to make an informed decision.

    Perhaps you’re thinking:

    • I’m not ready to be a parent

    • I can’t tell anyone I’m pregnant

    • I don't have support

We know exactly how you feel and you’re not alone. Many of our staff have been where you are. If you’re considering abortion, you need to know:

    • Are you really pregnant?

    • How far along are you?

    • Is your pregnancy normal? Are you at risk for natural miscarriage? Do you have a tubal (ectopic) pregnancy requiring immediate medical attention?

You may also be interested in knowing:

    • What kind of abortions are available to you?

    • What are your rights with abortion providers?

    • Are there any short-term or long-term risks to consider?

We can help you understand your pregnancy and your choices, discuss your health and explain your abortion options.

  • You may have more questions than answers about parenting, or maybe the thought of becoming a parent seems impossible to you at this time. We’ve talked to hundreds of women who are concerned about things like this:

    • My partner doesn’t want the baby, but I do

    • I can’t tell my family

    • How will I finish school

    • How will I continue working

    • Where will I live

    • I don’t have medical insurance

    • I can’t afford a child

    • I’m too young

Here at the Pregnancy Resource Center, we recognize the importance of the role of parents and provide opportunities for new parents to be supported and prepared. Our LifeSteps parenting classes let expectant moms and dads know that they are not alone and that they can rely on us for many resources and emotional support. It is our goal that new parents will allow this educational and community-building experience to benefit their children’s lives as well as their own.

We can talk about this option with you so you can decide if parenting is right for you.

  • You have lots of choices with modern adoption. Will it be open or closed? Will it be private or will you use an agency? You are in the driver’s seat when making an adoption plan and there are lots of things to consider if you:

    • Are concerned about how an abortion could impact you, but aren’t ready to be a parent

    • Are you experiencing instability in your relationship, and would like your child to be raised in a safe and stable home

    • Want to provide your child emotional and financial stability

In today’s adoptions, you have the choice to know your child and be a part of your child’s life. You can have the peace of knowing your child is loved and cared for by the couple you choose.

While the Pregnancy Resource Center does not facilitate adoptions, we are able to provide you with referrals to organizations and attorneys that we trust.

We can help you understand your adoption options.

About Abortion

The Abortion Pill

Up to 10 weeks after last menstrual period. Up to a 3 day process.

This option includes two drugs and is only approved for use in pregnant women up to the 70th day after their last period. The first pill(s) is Mifepristone, which blocks the effect of the body's natural hormone progesterone, a key pregnancy hormone, in turn weakening the embryo's connection to blood and nutrients.

24-48 hours later, the second pill(s), Misoprostol, is taken to cause uterine cramping. These contractions expel the embryo and empty the uterus through heavy bleeding within a few hours.

A follow-up visit 7-14 days later is critical to evaluate for a complete abortion (that the uterus is empty) and to assess for any complications.

This chemical abortion process will not work in the case of an ectopic pregnancy. This is a potentially life-threatening condition in which the embryo implants outside of the uterus, usually in the fallopian tube. If not diagnosed early, the tube may burst, causing internal bleeding and, in some cases, the death of the woman.

We provide ultrasounds to confirm location and gestational age, call us to schedule an appointment, so you have this necessary information about your health and options.

Common side effects and risks:

  • Abdominal pain, cramping, nausea, dizziness, headaches, fever and chills, diarrhea, vomiting, and fatigue.
  • Bleeding for 9-16 days is common and up to 8% of women experience bleeding for 30 days or more.
  • It is possible to see the expelled embryo or fetus and need to dispose of it.
  • Severe or prolonged bleeding, infection, failed or incomplete abortion requiring additional doses of the abortion pill or a D&C, and death.

Note: Along with the physical risks of abortion, there are also mental and emotional risks.

Remember, you have choices.

It’s your right to know what options are available to you. Don’t feel pressured to make a decision that you are not comfortable with. Take the time to understand the pros and cons of each pregnancy decision so you can decide with confidence.
